For the 20th Spongebob anniversary, Nickelodeon commissioned the programming of a ‘’spongtastic’’ WordPress website.
The Task
Spongebob’s 20th birthday was a big deal. Nickelodeon organized an expensive live show at Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz. The moderator Sascha Quade spent 48 hours in a studio built exclusively for the occasion and celebrated the birthday with an array of guests.
Nickelodeon commissioned a WordPress page as the platform for the live transmission of the event. Apart from the live stream, the website also had other extras, like downloads, galleries, videos, quizzes, and even a meme generator.
Nickelodeon commissioned Thomas Lehmann from Fingerzeig to design the website.

The Implementation
The landing page was implemented using WordPress as CMS. A custom theme was created, and the corresponding page templates were brought to life using PHP, HTML, Sass, and JavaScript.
Choosing the streaming player was a particular challenge. Not only did it have to fulfill the privacy policy requirements of the children and youth channel Nickelodeon, but also allow for the functioning of tracking, analytic tools, and prerolls.
